Submission Extension

Ola.

Mark thinks that having titles for our work in the catalogue would be a good idea, and so in lieu of this, and because we hadn't mentioned including a title with the submission of your work in the first place, we are going to extend the date of the submission of artwork photography to September 25th, which gives everyone an extra week!

Hopefully this lightens the stress load.

See you Thursday studs.

New Stuff!

Hello Darlings!

So the specs for the catalogue are as follows:
- 220 x 250mm
- 200/250gsm paper inside
- spot gloss on a matt cover (depending on costing, otherwise, a high gloss cover)

We are still unsure about:
- the gsm for the cover
- how many pages each we will end up with to show off our work
- the finish for the inside pages (matt or gloss: this depends on the comm design decision)
- and the flap happening somewhere on the front (tba)

New date to submit your images to Louise is: Thursday September 18.

The opening night date is now pending, but we will still work towards November 13.

Okay: so our job for the week is to come up with imagery ideas.

We are tossing up between:

+ Having a can of dog food, without a label, with a label, or even just the dogfood out of the can on its own.
+ Having just text, a fluidy design, or text made up of images of food or something. (KISS)

Post your ideas as comments on this site, if it doesn't work, just email them.

Thursday Aug 21 Meeting

And the winner iiiiiiiiiiis:
TASTE TEST!

During the next week, if you could all come up with imagery ideas please, or make some mock ups of anything that plays on the theme "taste test", that would be great. We will vote on them there and then, if you're not there, you miss out.

In a vote, we established that we don't want mugshots or a 50 word description of our work in the catalogue, and we decided that in place of didactics on the wall next to our work, that we will provide a map of the H Block upon arrival, numbered and elaborated on instead.

Monday, September 8 is the due date to have a selection of your work photographed and handed in. 4 photos max. Provide an indication of your preferences. Make sure they are print quality: 300 dpi, and in CMYK format. (If you don't know how to do this in Photoshop: Image > Mode > CMYK Colour.) Submit these to Louise by CD, or email if you can on or before Monday. See her for location details.

This Monday, the other project managers and I will be having a meeting with the Comm Design group. We will tell them that the majority of our class thinks a square sized catalogue would be nice, and we are into the cool flap thing idea. The date to submit images may change as of this Monday, but we will let you know.

For all other important dates and stuff you need to know, you should be checking the Notice Board near the door in the studio, there a couple of new things there for you to fill out. Also Letitia wrote up and distributed a sheet of important dates on everyone's desks a couple of weeks ago. Pay attention!

Next week we will ACTUALLY allocate jobs officially, so before then make sure you put your names down next to what you want to be involved in! Wonderful.

See you then!

FINAL POLL!

Okay, in regards to the disdain felt towards taste test,
I've put up a new poll.
This is it.
One vote each.
Due next Thursday.
COME TO THE MEETINGS!

Almost Meeting Minutes Thursday 14 Aug

Hey guys,

For those of you not present at the meeting today, here's an outline of what went on...

1. Result of Final Poll for Name of Show:
'Taste Test' came out on top, with a total of 9 votes...there was some unhappiness with this result, but not much we can do, we did hold a vote

2. Notice Board in Studio
There is now a Grad show notice board in studio (right as you walk in the door). We will be posting info on this, so stay tuned folks

3. Job Allocations
There is a job allocation sheet posted on the notice board in studio. Please add your name to the list...we are going to need everyone to chip in if we are going to be able to succesffuly organise this show

4. Important Dates you need to be aware of
An Importnat Dates sheet was distributed in the meeting...for those people not present one of these sheets has been placed on your desk in studio. (if you don't have one, contact me and ill email you one)

5. Catalogue Design Ideas
Tried to brainstorm ideas to go with the name 'Taste Test'...the images it brings to mind, etc. and ideas for the flyer, poster and catalogue
Here's the result of todays meeting and ones from the other day:

- just words, no image (for catalogue cover)
- the idea of ‘taste test’ having no connotations to food, rather it being about taste in art
- petrie dishes – abstracted
- DNA spirals
- plain text, black background, no image (catalogue cover)
- dog food – POW, or generic home brand dog food
- still shaped dog food (straight out of a can) in a dog bowl (white background)
- several people wanted the same image for the poster and flyer, however were keen to have a different image (or in fact just text and plain background) for the catalogue
- Just can of dog food
- Front cover – Can of dog food (floating on white background like a product)
Back cover – dog food out of can (not in bowl, just floating on a white background like a product)

- tongue
- food
- cubes of food
- sex
- lollies
- combination of grotesque and sexy
- 'taste test' written with food
- 'taste test' written with toothpicks
- 'taste test' scratched into icing sugar
- 'taste test' wirtten on lolly that sits on tongue
- licking someone's face
- licking a piece of art
- liking a white wall

wow, that's a really long list, and yes i am nearly done...hang in there

  • we asked whether people wanted didactics for show, or a map of H Block with location of works, and names and titles, or both...general consensus to have map and name tags
  • Several people suggested again that we have images of ourselves in the catalogue (at the back, and not themed photos, just headshots) so that people attending the opening night can identity who the works were done by, and then if they wanted to talk to that person, they can easily identify them.

We will be having a meeting where everyone needs to be present as we will be bringing mockups of design ideas...it's down as the 28 August at the moment, but if you want to knock up some idea you have and bring it along you are welcome to. It's really important that you attend the meeting every week...we need everyone there to help with organisation, and it means you get a say in what is going on as well.

If you have any more design/image ideas for the catalogue, flyer, or poster, post them.

If you got through all of this you deserve a medal...CONGRATS!

I'm out

Voting Has Changed!

Sorry to the two of you who had already voted, but I've had to resubmit the poll with the new options. Now, to be clear:
  • You can only pick THREE options in your ONE vote: I can tell if someone is cheating!
  • This is the FINAL list to choose from.
  • The results will be tallied at 8AM next THURSDAY, and everyone is expected to vote.
If everyone could please make sure they turn up to the group meetings held every Thursday after the seminar, we can make sure we won't end up with confusion like this again. Keep it fair! Next week's meeting is going to be a big one: choosing of the show name and allocation of the jobs!

Crazy Times on 8th Aug

ola
erika sent me an email last night with some more ideas for show names and asked me to post them on the blog, i know this makes it a bit complicated what with the voting poll, but since we are looking for a name that rocks out and freedom of information etc, i will post these up and we can sort out what to do about it after you guys look at this stuff mmmmkay

Saucer Size (one or two words)
lines slide, hair grows
Sliding on Grass on Fire
colourful trails like snails do
stairs to fall on
liquid seagulls (or something that starts with liquid)
outside room with bag inside
two sticks in hand
yardflood

we can figure out how to go about this through this communicative technology
cheers mattea

Thuuurrrrsday August 7 Yeaargh.

Bonjour.

So I added a Poll at the bottom of the page so we can vote on the gradshow name.
Pick your favourite 3. (and ONLY three! keep it fair.)
Due date for the final decision to be made is next Thursday, so vote before then!
(not sure, but you might have to register an account to be able to vote? let me know.)

Next Thursday will be time to allocate jobs.
So far the loose categories to be involved in aaarrrrggghhhh:

Print Media: The catalogue, posters, flyers, invites, and the photography.
Advertising: Ad placements, listings, media releases, dropping fliers around, and showreel.
Food & Beverage: Making food (depending on what we end up doing), the bar, sourcing everything.
Pre-Show Preparation: Space allocation and curating, equipment sourcing, didactics.
Showtime: Photography of assembled work, gallery sitting

These groups will overlap all over the place so it's going to be a massive group effort anyway, and we'll all end up being involved in everything. I'm sure there's heaps of stuff that I haven't thought of yet, and also there will be jobs that we are ALL going to have to be involved in like cleaning out the H Block, before and after the show, and heaps more.

Okay get voting studs.
Over and out.

Tuesday Aug 5 Updates

Okay update:
Today (tuesday) we four project managers had a meeting with Mark and Courtney regarding general information about the gradshow, along with a bunch of information we needed to know about assessment and etc. Generally, what we went over is below...

GOOD NEWS!
we now FINALLY have a date for opening night:
duh-rum roll......
Thursday November 13!!
We can begin preparation and installation of the show as early as the 8th november.
It will be up for a while, but for a couple of days after opening night, it is expected that we have someone around in the gallery manning the show.
Mark said he thinks that the show will stay up for a while in order that the new interview-ees and etc get a chance to see what goes on and all that.

The comm design catalogue thing was pretty much blown way out of proportion, and from what came across in the meeting today, it is simply the same size and stock that Jillian Hamilton would like kept consistent, the rest will be up to us to design. The other project managers and I are yet to have a meeting with the comm design kids, but we'll fill you in when we know what's happening.

The issue of equipment when it comes to us vs honors doesn't look like it will be a problem. They open on the 6th of November, and should be done by the time we need everything. This is still to be figured out, but i suggest we stop stressing.

We sort of discussed the budget, but that is still tba.

So thursday if we could have another group meeting after the seminar to talk about the name for the show, that would be good. We can't leave this for too long, but we want to make sure we pick the best name everrrr. Hopefully you've all had a think about it, and maybe even come up with some cool new ones? We thought about adding "art cubed" to the list.

So, summary:
Had a meeting tuesday.
Gradshow opens Thursday November 13.
Comm-Design issue is still tba.
Equipment probably isn't an issue anymore.
Budget still tba.
Turn up on Thursday pumped full of ideas!

Wonderful.
See you soon!

Meeting Minutes: July 31

Just reposting the email I sent around the other day about what was discussed in the meeting we had last Thursday.

= Name for the show
* neo-renaissance
* succulent (or something equally as delicious)
* scantily clad (or something equally as humorous)
* manifest or manifestation
* content
* conky
* artists?
* art + design (- design)
* art > design
* art² or artsquared
* gradshow/schmadshow (haha I find this amusing)

Over the next week, if everyone could just have a think and if you like any of the above, or have thought of any more awesome names, let me know and I'll put them all to the group next thursday for a vote. Great!

= On the advertising front, I was just hoping to compile a list of publications that we could approach with an ad for our show, somewhere to put as a listing, and even some media releases. If you could let me know some of the ones you know of, we can get an early start on putting the word out.

Aside from publications, we can drop some flyers into shops and galleries around Bris to broaden the audience, so if you can think of cool ones let me know as well!

= The commdesign catalogue vs our catalogue issue still hasn't been resolved, but as soon as we hear about it, we'll let you know what happens.
_____

Next week, I think we should address:
= the timeline ahead
= allocation of jobs
= whether we should include a dvd with the catalogue
= and obviously, the name of the show...

Hopefully by then we'll have heaps more information to share!!

Okay, thankyoooooou!!
End rant.
